Mixing Business with Pleasure – 5th June 2008

Calling all Business Club members, following the success of the last welcome evening RCT Business Club is inviting businesses to attend a free evening of networking on Thursday 5th June at the Cross Keys Hotel, Nantgarw, from 5:30pm until 7:30pm.
This new, regular, edition to the RCT Business Club events programme, was launched in April and proved to be a resounding success.
The session gives you the opportunity to drop in to an informal environment on their way home from a busy day at work and chat with like-minded business professionals and representatives from the Business Club team.
The event is free of charge, and there is even a 10% discount on meals courtesy of Jo Cusak, Landlady at the Cross Keys Hotel.
Also if you book your place on any forthcoming Business Club events on the night you can receive a 5% discount – even more reason to attend.
So why not drop in for a meal and a pint, or a coke if you’re driving and help your business grow with RCT Business Club.

Knowledge Transfer Partnership Helps Secure Prestigious Contract
Blackbox-av design and manufacture audio-visual equipment for the museum, heritage and attraction industries. The company has been involved in two Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with the University of Glamorgan.
The first project involved Associate Alan Williams, who developed a new range of extremely successful communication and media technologies. The new technological capabilities helped secure important contracts, including the installation of the "Ice Station" Antarctica exhibition at the Natural History Museum, London (where the company supplied over 50 different items of audio visual equipment). Alan has stayed on with blackbox-av as their R&D Manager.
The second project is due to end in November this year. Associate Ross Cuthbertson is developing enhanced company capabilities in multimedia programming whilst studying for an MSc as part of the KTP. He is being supported by Clive Thomas from the University’s Centre for Electronic Product Engineering.
Jonathan Knight, Managing Director of Blackbox said, ‘the KTP has been an invaluable exercise for us. University of Glamorgan and our KTP project manager made the process very simple for us and have assisted with the scheme implementation every step of the way. The KTP has assisted in keeping the company up to date with emerging technologies relevant to our business as well as providing an all important succession candidate for a retiring Director. As a small business, this would have been difficult to achieve without KTP. I thoroughly recommend it’.
If you are interested in talking to the university about how Knowledge Transfer partnerships can support your business then contact: Richard Mahoney – rmahone1@glam.ac.uk or tel: 01443 482482.
